Anna University, Chennai, India have recently launched a  new two-year online distance education programme, students can pursue an M.Sc in FOSS. This programme is the only degree from a leading Indian technology-focused university that’s specifically being awarded for studies in FOSS.

In the process of becoming a computer science professional through this programme, one also masters a wide range of products, tools, technologies and approaches thrown up by the FOSS movement. Moreover, it is the only such programme from a leading Indian tech university delivered entirely online.

It has the benefits of flexible interactive learning unconstrained by geographical limitations and is specially suited for those who are already working.

A real-time operating system (RTOS) is an operating system (OS) intended to serve real-time application requests.

A key characteristic of an RTOS is the level of its consistency concerning the amount of time it takes to accept and complete an application's task; the variability is jitter.

An RTOS has an advanced algorithm for scheduling. Scheduler flexibility enables a wider, computer-system orchestration of process priorities, but a real-time OS is more frequently dedicated to a narrow set of applications. Key factors in a real-time OS are minimal interrupt latency and minimal thread switching latency; a real-time OS is valued more for how quickly or how predictably it can respond than for the amount of work it can perform in a given period of time.

Torvalds has never met Bill Gates, but around 2000, when he was still working at Transmeta, he met Steve Jobs. Jobs invited him to Apple’s Cupertino campus and tried to hire him. “Unix for the biggest user base: that was the pitch,” says Torvalds. The condition: He’d have to drop Linux development.

Open source is ubiquitous in today’s software market. Most major companies use at least some open source to run their business, and their proclivity for doing so is only rising as the years go on. Learn just how old the open source concept is and see where its bright future is headed.

If you are open source developer or thinking to start a project in open source you must have asked this question to yourself.
Which Open Source Licensing scheme shall I choose for my Project ?
There are many available choices of the license that can be very confusing and many people simply pick a license without really understanding the meaning or the clauses in the license. Some choose a license by the popularity. Some because a particular license is used in their favorite projects. Even worse, some even choose a license because it looks or sounds cool.

There are many resources on the Web that provide comparison of the available licenses. But here is one quick and funny way to make a choice of open source license for your projects.

Not only Ubuntu, sometimes we needed to work with other OS like windows in office or somewhere else. When we're not face directly with our computer (Ubuntu), can we monitor it ?, yes, you can !, you can do it via remote desktop connection.

Ubuntu as a part of Linux has provide some ports which commonly used as remote protocol, that is ssh (port 22) and telnet (port 21). If you are accustomed to use terminal you can use both of port above, but if you are not accustomed to, you can do it via VNC.

What is VNC ?
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the RFB protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network. VNC is platform-independent – a VNC viewer on one operating system may connect to a VNC server on the same or any other operating system, (Wikipedia).

However optimized power management and other infrastructure that didn't make it this time will arrive in the next release that is 3.4

You must have read or heard about wget command line download utility. It provides  immense capabilities, but when it comes to accelerating the download speed, wget doesn't provide any option. But Axel is one such tool which do the job of a download accelerator very well.

There are many IDEs we can use to help us write code faster and easier. Most of them have a nice syntax folding and highlighting. For example: selector, property, and value in CSS code have different color each other. But what happens when you copy the code and paste it on LibreOffice or OpenOffice to create PDF document of your codes? It is not beautiful as in IDE you use. Is there any solution? Yes, you can install COOoder extension for LibreOffice/OpenOffice to beautify your syntax.
