I have written a post about Slingshot Launcher and how to configure it on XFCE. Slingshot is an application which can display fullscreen menu. Slingshot was originally developed by Elementary OS team. If you are using KDE desktop, you can perform such task by using Takeoff. Takeoff is a plasma widget which inspired in the aspect of Slingshot, and of course, it can display menu in fullscreen mode just like Slingshot.

Few days ago, I re-installed VLC which was removed accidentally. Suddenly, my laptop turned off because of my battery, so VLC was not installed correctly and caused a problem when running APT command with error message: "E: The package vlc needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.".
Guest account is default account that exist in Ubuntu which used for additional user which is not registered in the system, Guest account have an access to the desktop, using all application that installed, but having limited access to the system setting. if you feel guest account might not needed may you can disable it, do as follow :
in my computer, lightdm.conf is looks like the following :

Not only Ubuntu, sometimes we needed to work with other OS like windows in office or somewhere else. When we're not face directly with our computer (Ubuntu), can we monitor it ?, yes, you can !, you can do it via remote desktop connection.
Ubuntu as a part of Linux has provide some ports which commonly used as remote protocol, that is ssh (port 22) and telnet (port 21). If you are accustomed to use terminal you can use both of port above, but if you are not accustomed to, you can do it via VNC.
What is VNC ?
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the RFB protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network. VNC is platform-independent – a VNC viewer on one operating system may connect to a VNC server on the same or any other operating system, (Wikipedia).

There are many IDEs we can use to help us write code faster and easier. Most of them have a nice syntax folding and highlighting. For example: selector, property, and value in CSS code have different color each other. But what happens when you copy the code and paste it on LibreOffice or OpenOffice to create PDF document of your codes? It is not beautiful as in IDE you use. Is there any solution? Yes, you can install COOoder extension for LibreOffice/OpenOffice to beautify your syntax.
Today we will show you some 'old' video taken from youtube (thanks to Tru3m0sl3m) that show us how to recover Ubuntu Partition after installing Windows. VLC Media Player is one of many successful open source software today. Beside, it can play many popular audio and video formats, VLC can do some cool tasks we might never use them. Today, I'd like to write a post about them.
1. Record screen activity (screencast)
We already have Eidete and gtkRecordMyDesktop to record screen activity a.k.a screencasting. But, VLC Media Player can used to do such task too. Open VLC, navigate to "Media > Open Capture Device" or press CTRL + C on the keyboard. In the "Capture Mode" option, select "Desktop" and don't forget to select "Convert" if you want to save your screencast into file.
Linux gives its users freedom to customize. We can change wallpaper, icon themes, cursor themes or even switch from one desktop environment to another, for example switching from GNOME desktop to XFCE desktop.
