Are you looking for Google Desktop in Linux? Google never release that program for Linux. Instead, we have an alternative from DocFetcher. It is a great replacement for Google Desktop with more features such as selecting what type of file to index. We can select what folder to index, what filetype, and view strings found in every file. DocFetcher can show search result in a table so you can search for a string in all PDF you have. Here we show how to install in Ubuntu and how to use it. Manokwari is a desktop environment from Blankon Linux. Manokwari is a lightweight desktop with unique user interface. It is suitable for old computers. This article will tell you how to use Manokwari for daily purpose. I use Blankon 9 Suroboyo for this article.


OwnCloud has official desktop client. So, we can use that client to connect to our private OwnCloud server or another Owncloud services. For example, I use Owncloud client to connect and synchronize my files to OwnDrive Service (an OwnCloud storage service). I will show you how to install it on Ubuntu.

I will show you both online and offline methods. I use Brackets 1.3 and Ubuntu 15.04. You can use this guide on another Ubuntu version.


HubiC is a cloud storage from OVH, a French data hosting company. HubiC claims every data will be replicated in three different OVH data centres located in France. It offers us huge cloud storage (25 GB free, and more offerings). And the most interesting thing is hubiC provides a Linux desktop client. Unfortunately, it has no GUI yet. But I will show you how to install and use it on Ubuntu 15.04. HubiC client for Linux at this date (June 28th 2015) is still in beta and it is still available only for Debian-based.


We have a number of PDF converter tools in Linux. One of them is Investintech Able2Extract PDF Converter. Able2Extract main features are convert a PDF document into editable format such as ODF (ODT and all) or Microsoft Office (DOCX and all). Able2Extract can also convert a PDF into AutoCAD (DWG, DXF) and HTML. I use Able2Extract free trial version here. The official Able2Extract page is here.


Slack.com doesn't release an official client for Linux. But thanks to Rael Gugelmin Cunha (raelgc), he created an unofficial Slack.com client for Linux. It is ScudCloud (not to confuse with Soundcloud). It is available for Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Fedora, and Archlinux. I will show you how to install it on Ubuntu and another distros.

Seafile is a desktop client of Seacloud service. Seafile is available for Ubuntu. I will show you how to install Seafile in Kubuntu 15.04 and how to use it basically. You can use this tutorial in Ubuntu or another official derivatives.

You can boot Linux ISO directly from your HDD with grml-rescueboot utility. You don't need a CD, DVD, or USB drive anymore. You don't need to burn anything. And no need to formally configure anything. Just put an ISO then update your GRUB and it's done. Actually, grml modifies your GRUB to recognize an ISO you provide and to boot it. Finally, you can have more than one ISO to boot at any time you start your computer.

Do you want to do programming in Linux? Probably you need C++ programming environment in Linux. Then you need a GUI programming toolkit for C++.You can choose C++ with Qt Framework programming environment in Ubuntu. I will show you how to get them all (complete with C++ library and an IDE) Ubuntu 15.04. Magically, you get them all just by installing Qt Creator.

Do you need an IRC client inside your Firefox? Dislike to install any IRC client such as Quassel? Instead, you can use Chatzilla add-on in Firefox. You can also use Webchat service from freenode.net. I show you how to install and use Chatzilla. In the end, I show you how to use Freenode Webchat to chat in freenode. I use channel #ubuntu-indonesia @ freenode as example.

Pinta is an cross-platform image editor inspired by Paint.NET in Windows. It is lighter than GIMP, but more than Shotwell or Gwenview. Pinta is licensed under MIT license. Pinta is a software by Pinta Project (Cameron White and friends). This article will guide you how to install and use Pinta in Ubuntu. I will show you the basic usage only to crop and annotate image.
