Kubuntu 22.04 with Legacy Oxygen Theme

This tutorial will help you using silver, metallic theme "Oxygen" that was popular in the era of KDE 4 on the modern Kubuntu 22.04 "Jammy Jellyfish". In short, we will use Elarun as wallpaper and Oxygen as the rest of the whole themes including application style, colors, icons, Plasma style, and splash screen. How To Install GNOME Tweaks on Ubuntu 24.04

Bring Back Firefox Titlebar on Ubuntu 24.04

Did you notice that Firefox Web Browser has no titlebar on Ubuntu 24.04? If you look closer, you will figure out the top most of its window is the tab bar and you never see program name "Firefox" as well as website name in full "Enterprise Open Source and Linux | Ubuntu" --for example-- you are currently visiting. If you don't like that, you can bring titlebar back by following this.

Ubuntu with Linux Mint Icons

As continuation to the previous tutorial, here is the other way around Ubuntu with Mint icon themes. Unlike Ubuntu's, this icon theme called Mint-Y is one but divided into different color sub-theme such as Mint-Y-Dark and so on. Linux Mint with Windows 7 Theme

This article explains step by step to change GNU/Linux Mint operating system user interface to mimic W7 especially after its official support ended in this January 2020. You can practice this tutorial in Cinnamon Edition and you will install 2 types of theme plus 1 original wallpaper here. GNOME 3.32 + Bottom Taskbar + Traditional Layout

Following latest customization tutorial, and inspired by Alex's post on /r/GNOME/, here's GNOME desktop with traditional layout tweak. Traditional means it looks like KDE, Windows, or Mint with bottom-oriented taskbar and start menu. You will have no top panel nor left panel anymore, with panel on bottom along with its system tray. The star of this tutorial is the extension named Dash to Panel (not to be confused with Dash to Dock), an amazing tool to flexibly tweak and control everything of our beloved panel. KDE Plasma Desktop + Unity Layout + Ubuntu Ambiance Theme

Following my latest customization tutorial and my old 2016 one, this short tutorial explains how to install Ambiance theme from Ubuntu so the custom Plasma can look more like Unity. After you made the top and left panel, now you will have black titlebar with orange circle close-button and make the left panel translucent and finally install the famous Humanity icon theme. KDE Plasma Desktop + Vertical Panel + Global Menu

(Plasma with panel layout similar to Unity Desktop Environment)

This simple customization tutorial explains how to make Plasma to look like Unity desktop environment on GNU/Linux. You will have a working global menu on the top panel, including System Tray, and, a vertical panel with start menu where you put your favorite app shortcuts there. You will be able to save your final configuration to import it on another computer with same KDE Plasma so you do not need to re-configure it every time. I use Neon OS with Plasma 5.15 as my system to practice this tutorial and it's very easy to do. I hope you will enjoy it. Happy tweaking!

XFCE + Global Menu + Capitaine Theme Pack

Continuing KDE, GNOME, and MATE customization the series, it's XFCE's turn being customized with a global menu and Capitaine theme pack. We will use an XFCE theme, a GTK3 theme, an icon theme, tweak the top panel a little, and then install Plank as the dock, and finish them up with some more tweaking. I practiced this on Xubuntu 18.04 with XFCE version 4.12. I wish this helps everybody especially you who just started customizing XFCE desktop. Happy tweaking!

MATE Desktop + Yosemite Theme Pack

(MATE Desktop customized with Yosemite Theme Pack)

Following the first and the second tutorials, it's MATE Desktop's turn now getting customized with Yosemite Theme Pack. We will use OS-X-Yosemite as both interior (GTK3) and exterior (Metacity) themes, McHigh Sierra as icon theme, Madmac as Plank theme, plus some more tweaks done via MATE Tweak Tool. You don't need to install any additional software package. This customization has been tested and worked on Ubuntu MATE 18.04 LTS. It's really fun and everybody new to customization can benefit from the basics practiced here. Enjoy it, and share with your friends!

GNOME 3 + McMojave Theme Pack

(GNOME 3.30 customized with McMojave theme pack)

Last time I applied Mojave theme on KDE Plasma and this time I want to apply similar thing onto GNOME 3. I use Fedora 29 as the basis, however, you can do it on any other GNU/Linux distro. As the composition, I use here McMojave as both Shell and GTK3 themes, and then Mojave-CT icon theme, plus two additional GSEs namely Desktop Icons and Dash to Dock. Don't worry even if you have no experience in desktop tweaking, as I have published GNOME customization preparations article before this tutorial. Go ahead, have fun, and enjoy!

How To Compile and Install Emerald on Ubuntu 18.04

This tutorial explains in step by step how to install Emerald window decorator on Ubuntu 18.04. You will compile the source code manually after installing required packages and get Emerald Manager program as the final result. Then you can use Emerald Manager to install many Emerald Themes available on OpenDesktop.org or such theme download sites and have experiments as much as you like. How To Install Kvantum Engine for KDE on Ubuntu

After I presented Kvantum-based desktop theme "Mojave-CT" in the last tutorial, you might wonder in particular how to install the Kvantum Engine itself properly. As you might know as well, many Kvantum-based themes are very gorgeous and some are beautifully translucent.

See for example Glass White. You cannot install such theme without first installing Kvantum Engine. This simple tutorial gives you step by step instructions to install Kvantum Engine on Ubuntu GNU/Linux. You can apply this tutorial on Debian, neon, or Trisquel if you wish as they are all basically same. Enjoy!

KDE Plasma Desktop + Kvantum + Movaje-CT Themes

We can make Plasma desktop to look like macOS. This tutorial uses Mojave-CT Theme Pack (including Aurorae, Plasma, Kvantum, and icon themes) as the I explain here the requirements and step by step instructions to configure everything. It is surprisingly easy, the steps are very clear, but it takes a bit long time to finish them all.
