On GNOME we use Alacarte, on KDE we use KDE Menu Editor, on XFCE we use MenuLibre, but how to edit Applications Menu on elementary OS? For example, you run LibreOffice AppImage, but you cannot add it to start menu by drag-and-drop nor right-click on it. Then how to do that? It is easy, you may use either mentioned MenuLibre, or the native AppEditor. Finally I practiced this on version 5.0 Juno and it works. Try it and let's see if you love it. Enjoy!

LibreOffice is a really great free software project which provides its product in all formats possible, whether it is DEB or RPM, Snap, Flatpak, or even AppImage. If you don't know, AppImage is just like DMG on MacOS, it's application in single file format just click to run it. However, if you see closer, LibreOffice AppImage looks good on elementary OS 5.0. That's why it's very interesting to use on elementary OS. In this article I just want to report screenshots and my short comments about it. After using it for a week, here's intro to 5 of my favorite apps from AppCenter on elementary OS 5.0 I've tried. So far it's Torrential (BitTorrent client), Spice-Up (presentation editor), DesktopFolder (icons on desktop), Notes-Up (document editor & notetaking program), and Screencast (desktop recorder). Four of them are paid apps, while still free/libre open source software, as I humbly support this approach of selling free software. I hope this article encourages more developers to join this elementary LLC's software publishing platform and encourages more users to appreciate paid free software and support them. I like StartPage.com as my search engine but I don't find it as option on elementary OS 5.0 web browser. The options available there are only Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Google. Not to mention StartPage.com itself currently doesn't support Epiphany with addon. So I add it manually and hey, apparently it's very easy! Here's how to do it:

• 1) Run the web browser (Epiphany)
• 2) Open the gear menu button > Preferences
• 3) Click manage search engine > click + button >
• 4) Paste this URL there https://startpage.com/do/search?language=english&cat=web&query=%s
• 5) Name it StartPage and close
• 6) Test searching with it. It should now uses StartPage.com as your default search engine.

It's Juno. It's the codename of the newly released elementary OS 5.0 on Wednesday, 17 October 2018; a continuation of the 0.4 Loki since 2016. The 5.0 is now rebased on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (which has been released last April). It brings a lot of new features, while keeping it's user experience design with more stability and strangely it's easier to RAM now. This short article covers what's changed.

Since the beginning of 2018, precisely after we had the sophisticated Loki since 2016, we have been waited for Juno, the 5.0 version of elementary OS. Today, Wednesday, 17 October 2018, it's finally released and you can download it. This article brings the download links, torrents, checksum, and announcement info. I include short instructions on how to download for both direct and torrent ways as some users wonder how. Also, for historical purpose, I note here a summary of some links from the first announcement of Juno development from January this year up to last notice of Beta 2 last month. Here's a second short preview (after the March 2018 one) to the next 5.0 version of elementary OS from the development release. We're getting closer to final now as the Beta 1 has been released and the Beta 2 has been started but it's still not recommended to install or use the Betas. This means do not upgrade to Beta 1 or Beta 2 yet, nor install the Beta, but wait until the final version officially released. To sum it up, in 5.0, the user interface is getting more cool with tons of improvement; and the AppCenter is really amazing with payment system for both developers who deserve funds and users who want to contribute. I also mention how active the development progress is below and how we can help. This preview is very brief and cannot represent the final as the final could have more and more amazing additions. elementary OS 5.0 codenamed "Juno" has not been released. But the development is already active, and fortunately we are able to try the components on elementary OS 0.4 Loki right now. I have installed some latest programs of Juno from elementary-daily PPA and show you how they look like here. In other words, this article is a short preview of the new elementary Installer of Juno, as well as AppCenter and some more Juno's new stuffs. Not only that, I mention here how to get them on Loki so you can also try them, as the original announcement doesn't explain that. Read on and have a try!

While we want to follow elementary OS latest updates, we may find it's difficult to find its official Launchpad PPA addresses. For example, if you want to try 5.0 "Juno" but you cannot get latest ISO image, then installing software in development version from PPA on Loki is the only way. If you are a review writer (like me) you need those PPAs, but believe me it's hard to find them on elementary OS website. So, I think it will be good to have a list of elementary OS PPAs in one article with instruction to install each. As a bonus, these PPAs of elementary OS are also installable for Ubuntu or Mint i.e. to install Pantheon Desktop on Ubuntu.
