This is a full list of all Lubuntu default applications (or list of Lubuntu components) with their explanations for first time users. Lubuntu is the official variant of Ubuntu with LXDE as the technology of the desktop environment and default applications. This list is sorted alphabetically with app names taken from menu for example Discover, FeatherPad and PCManFM. You can learn your Lubuntu computer a lot here as you see every app name, its purpose, short guide to use, and some pictures of them. At the last moment I wrote the WTDAI, I found out Compton settings to be very very interesting. In other words, we can make our old computer runs beautiful desktop OS featuring translucent window and drop shadows (similar to macOS). As it would be too complicated to explain on a simple WTDAI, I make a separate tutorial here starting with finding out the config, enabling it, and making the effects right for you. This tutorial is based on Lubuntu 18.10 and should be effective for the next releases and other LXQt distros as well. Enjoy!

Following installation guide and review, this is the traditional compilation of suggestions after having a fresh Lubuntu 18.10 --the first LXQt edition--. You will notice the first thing here is about network manager as this new edition lacks nice feature on that. Five more things are about some nice tweakings in the file manager and the user interface. This tutorial explains step by step to install Lubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish". It's available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. This is the first edition ever comes with LXQt Desktop Environment and also Calamares System Installer. This means Lubuntu Cosmic will have a slightly different steps to install as it does not use Ubiquity anymore. Lubuntu Next is a new operating system aside of Lubuntu developed by the original Lubuntu team. In other words, Lubuntu Next is Lubuntu little brother. LXQt is a newcomer desktop environment for Linux. It is a lightweight desktop with modern look. LXQt is suitable for old computers, same with LXDE. LXQt is actually LXDE + Qt (LXDE but reconstructed with Qt Framework). LXQt was born from merger between LXDE and Razor-Qt project. It is also similar with Windows in which they have same layout. But LXQt is for those who like LXDE simplicity but prefer Qt against GTK. Note for you, KDE is created from Qt and LXDE is created from GTK. Using LXQt is similar to using LXDE with KDE look. This article is for beginner Linux user especially those who never used LXQt before. I use LXQt 0.7.0 on Manjaro Ascella for this article.
