Ubuntu 21.10 Reached EOL and How To Add Support

Canonical announced that now Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri has reached End of Life (EOL). This means your Impish computer will not be able to install applications anymore, nor receive any security updates, although it can still be used without any time limits. This tutorial will explain how to check that out and add support provided by Canonical and also third-parties.

My Ubuntu Reached EOL, What Should I Do?

 
(Unsupported Ubuntu release, i.e. version 14.10 Utopic, can install programs once again)

If your Ubuntu version reached its End of Life (EOL), it will not install software anymore. You can still use the system without time limit but you cannot get more applications nor security updates. This article explains with example to take care of Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" which has been EOL since 2015 so it can install programs once again (but without updates). This tutorial can be used for other EOLed versions of Ubuntu for example 10.10 or 17.04. I hope this helps.

Ubuntu 12.04 Will Be End-Of-Life in April 28th 2017 & ESM Surprise


Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" will reach End-Of-Life in 28 April 2017 (44 days from today). This information released by Adam Conrad today (March 15th) in the official ubuntu-announce mailing list. The surprise is, Dustin Kirkland announces today in the same mailing list that Canonical offers paid Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) for Precise once it reaches End-Of-Life. ESM is a new paid support from Canonical introduced in this year. For you Precise users, you may upgrade to newer supported version of Ubuntu, or replace it, or stay at Precise without updates with the old-archive repo, or stay at Precise and stay up-to-date by purchasing ESM support.
