Did you find Ubuntu Files (also known as Nautilus File Manager) behave inconveniently when you access a disk volume or a flash drive? Yes, when accessing volumes, Files icon is inactive in the Ubuntu Dash (left panel) even though Files window is active and then the user must move the pointer down to hard disk drive icon. To us, this behavior is confusing and forcing user to frequently make unnecessary movements up and down or even worse scrolling down on it if he/she has a lot of pinned icons for daily work. Yes, this happened to us a lot for years. Fortunately, this is just an issue of configuration and we can fix this easily by simple explanation below.

There is a better start menu if you use MATE Desktop called Advanced Menu that enables you windows key and search bar. To many users, it would be more efficient compared to the default list-style menu that lacks both. This tutorial will show you how to do it and it is applicable to Trisquel and any other GNU/Linux with MATE Desktop. Let's try it out!

Thanks to my student, I am now aware that Inkscape can use different icon theme and that user can switch its icon theme just by renaming files. I use 0.92.5 and I can easily switch between icon themes available built-in. I noted here how I do that on Ubuntu Focal Fossa. Enjoy!

Reload is the process refreshing the information of download sources in an Ubuntu system. If you observe, you will find that actually Ubuntu downloads several dozen megabytes of data when reloading and in fact you can reduce up to half size. Alacarte is the easiest tool to edit Ubuntu menu entries. It allows you to show, create a new entry of application, edit the existing entries, change the icon images, or delete any. It is very useful to create Unity Dash menu entry for any application software installed manually. Alacarte is also an alternative to MenuLibre. Here the instructions about how to use it.

For several users, it is annoying to see system update notification every day. You may disable it easily. Warning, update is important for security matters. You will do this with your own risk.

1. Open Ubuntu menu. 
2. Search for Software & Updates.
3. Open Updates tab.
4. Change into Never for Automatically check for updates entry.

If you find Recent Files in Cinnamon menu is annoying, then disable it. Unfortunately, Cinnamon System Settings has no option for this tweak yet. So you must do that manually. I use Cinnamon 2.2.13 on Linux Mint 17. This tweak is applicable to Cinnamon in another Linux distro.

If you are using KDE, and find Recently Used section in your menu, you probably feel it is annoying. Especially for your privacy. So how to disable it? There are two methods, temporarily and permanently. I use KDE 4.10.3 (Ubuntu 12.04) here and you may use this article until KDE 5.
