Good news for MATE Desktop Environment fans. MATE 1.4 has been released and ready to install on Ubuntu. In this release, MATE comes with numerous bug fixes, caja-dropbox package so you can integrate Dropbox in Caja file manager easily, added new themes, and also file sharing now available via bluetooth.


Below are some changes of MATE 1.4:
  • Numerous bug fixes
  • caja-dropbox package now available
  • New themes added to mate-notification-daemon
  • Removed indicator-applet-session
  • File sharing now available via bluetooth
  • mate-icon-theme-faenza now available
  • mate-character-map now available
  • Removed nyancat from the mate-desktop about dialog
  • Caja improvements:
    • Restored toggle button for text based location bar
    • Bookmarks can now be opened in the places side pane via the enter and space keys
    • Added a button to get the difference between files in the file conflict dialog

Installing on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin
If you have installed MATE before, all you need to do to get MATE 1.4 is running system updates. MATE package will be updated to latest version automatically. If you don't installed it yet, simply run the following commands:
  • sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu precise main"
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyring
  • sudo apt-get update
  • # this install base packages
  • sudo apt-get install mate-core
  • # this install more packages
  • sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment
