VLC is a complete video player with conversion features. If you already have VLC installed, you can convert videos & audios without additional software. VLC is one of many successful open source application out there. It supports wide range audio and video formats, and it completely free. VLC is available by default on Ubuntu's official repository, so you can install it easily from Package Manager. Unfortunately, sometimes there is a delay between VLC released by the author and VLC which is available on Ubuntu repository. Many of us like the latest version of application. Installing the latest version of software, letting us have more features, enhancements, and less bugs. Today, I'd like to show you how to get the latest version of VLC for Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10, and Ubuntu 12.04.

VLC is one of the best cross-platform open-source application in the world. It can play almost multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols. Many people use VLC for playing videos and even musics. But there is one more feature of VLC which rarely used that's downloading YouTube videos! with a little help of web browser. Although, there are many applications to download YouTube videos on Ubuntu, I'd like to show you how to download YouTube videos by using VLC, in case you don't want to install any additional applications.

Well, if you are familiar with VLC Media Player and love it, you should give VLMC (VideoLAN Movie Creator) a try when making video. VLMC is created by VideoLAN team.

VideoLAN Movie Creator is a non-linear editing software for video creation based on libVLC and running on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X! It is a free software distributed under the terms of the GPL v2.

VLC Media Player is one of many successful open source software today. Beside, it can play many popular audio and video formats, VLC can do some cool tasks we might never use them. Today, I'd like to write a post about them.

1. Record screen activity (screencast)
We already have Eidete and gtkRecordMyDesktop to record screen activity a.k.a screencasting. But, VLC Media Player can used to do such task too. Open VLC, navigate to "Media > Open Capture Device" or press CTRL + C on the keyboard. In the "Capture Mode" option, select "Desktop" and don't forget to select "Convert" if you want to save your screencast into file.


Our favorite media player VLC now comes to Android. But, before you jump into this post, please make note that VLC for Android is unofficial build (compiled from source) of VLC compiled by adridu59 @xda-developers. It means that this application has no support from VLC team, so when you encounter any bug, don't go to VLC team for reporting, please join this discussion to do so.
