Description

Dolphin is the default file manager of Kubuntu. In the past, this position was held by Konqueror, a web browser with full file manager capabilities. Dolphin is part of KDE Applications and is tightly integrated to the Plasma Desktop and other KDE Apps. It has a blue folder logo, a standard two-panel user interface, and a rich choices of settings and customizations. Standard features include basic file browsing, file manipulations (create, delete, copy, paste, rename ...), disk partitions accessing, fast previewing, Sorting in many modes, Show in Groups, and many more. Unique features include fully customizable user interface and integrated terminal in the window (F4).

Companion Program

Dolphin works as the file manager while other program, KDE File Dialog, works as file chooser. Because of the two are very well integrated, user might think both are the same program. This companion program will show whenever user saves or opens a document from any application to offer a way to pick a file in the filesystem. It is well integrated means that whatever settings applied to Dolphin, for example, saved bookmarks to user's favorite directories, will also available here.

Contributing to Dolphin

Dolphin is part of KDE so if you want to contribute, you can do it like with any other KDE Applications. You can help with coding (if you know programming), donating, debugging, designing, translating to your language, etc. Technically, Dolphin is written in C++ combined with Qt and KDE Frameworks and publicly developed together at KDE Gitlab Server. So if you want to get involved, click the links under References section below. Your contribution will be very useful to the whole community especially GNU/Linux and KDE users.
