LibreOffice 7.5 released Thursday 2 February 2023. This free libre and open source office suite is now available for all computer users especially those who use GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. It brings out a lot of improvements and new features, and among them, visual identities. Thank you to all the developers and contributors. Congratulations to the whole LibreOffice Community!

About LibreOffice

LibreOffice is a cross-platform, free libre open source software (FOSS) office suite from Germany developed by worldwide community under stewardship of a non-profit organization. It was originally developed from OpenOffice.org in 2010, first released in 2011 and the latest version 7.5 released in 2023. It is consisted of six applications namely Base (database), Calc (spreadsheet), Draw (illustrator), Impress (presentation), Math (equation editor), and Writer (word processor). It is mostly viewed as an alternative to Microsoft Office or Google Docs. It is the de facto office suite on all GNU/Linux operating systems especially Ubuntu. LibreOffice 7.5 brings a lot of new features as the following:

  • Major improvements to dark mode support
  • New application and MIME-type icons, more colorful and vibrant
  • The Start Centre can filter documents by type
  • An improved version of the Single Toolbar UI has been implemented
  • PDF Export improved with several fixes, and new options and features
  • Support for font embedding on macOS
  • Improvements to the Font Features dialog with several new options

Download LibreOffice 7.5

For Ubuntu users:

Visit libreoffice.org/download -> see the version 7.5 section -> switch operating system option to "linux 64-bit (deb)" -> Download -> you are downloading the package in .tar.gz compressed archive format -> install it in traditional way using dpkg command.

For GNU/Linux users in general:

Visit libreoffice.org/download/appimage -> see the Basic, Fresh section -> click to download -> you are downloading the package in .AppImage binary executable format -> run it by double-clicking it after giving it executable permission.

For Microsoft Windows users:

Visit libreoffice.org/download -> see the version 7.5 section -> switch the option to "Windows" either 32-bit or 64-bit according to your computer specifications -> you are downloading the package in .msi format -> install it like any other Windows program.  

For Apple MacOS users: 

Visit libreoffice.org/download -> see the version 7.5 section -> switch the option to "MacOS" either Intel or M1 according to your Macintosh specifications -> you are downloading the package in .dmg format -> run it like any other Mac program.


Availability on Ubuntu

LibreOffice is an important preinstalled component on Ubuntu. LibreOffice 7.5.1 is already available in the repository of Ubuntu "Lunar Lobster" 23.04 which the OS is now still under development. This can be confirmed from packages.ubuntu.com/libreoffice.
