DuckDuckGo is a search engine that promises privacy to internet users. Apparently, it is the default web search in multiple popular operating systems like PureOS as well as several browsers including Tor Browser. This means user of one of these computer OSes or browsers will get search results from DuckDuckGo every time they did a search. What are them? Let's explore.

Trisquel

Since long, Trisquel made DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. Its web browser is called Abrowser. Trisquel is the official operating systems in laptops offered by Respects Your Freedom. Visit www.trisquel.info to learn more.


PureOS

Purism company is currently the only company from Free Libre Open Source Software community who develops both their own hardware and software in a brand -- comparable to Apple from proprietary world --. Purism manufactures Librem secure phone and laptop products, has their own user's security focused OS called PureOS, its browser is called PureBrowser, and its default search engine is DuckDuckGo. openSUSE

The European green gecko operating system, openSUSE, made DuckDuckGo as its default search engine in its Firefox browser. Its own portal is located in search.opensuse.org that resulting to DuckDuckGo. Here's openSUSE 15.3 searching the key word 'opensuse' on the web.


Tails

The Amnestic Incognito Live System aka Tails is a security and privacy oriented computer operating system. It is a smartly modified version of Debian OS with Tor Browser preinstalled. Guess what is its search engine? Yes, it is DuckDuckGo. Visit tails.boum.org to learn more.
 

 

Tor Browser

This is an application and not operating system. It is a modified version of Firefox Browser with the addition of The Onion Router Network, an encrypted peer to peer network in the internet. However, it is available for Android, GNU/Linux, iOS, MacOS and Windows. The point is Tor Browser uses DuckDuckGo search engine by default. If the user installs Tor Browser, they will get DuckDuckGo in these five OSes selection. Also, it is the built-in browser of Tails operating system mentioned above. Falkon
