What we are missing is built-in easy way to install themes in Ubuntu. Different with the old Ubuntu (versions before 11.04), now it is more tricky to tweak appearance of Ubuntu. But there is a convenient way starting at Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr named Unity Tweak Tool. With this tool, we can easily change our Ubuntu theme.

Deviantart user Half-left has designed a great theme for Gnome Shell. His latest theme is based on the look of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin Ambiance theme and is an absolute eyecandy.



Betelgeuse is a new Faience like Icon theme for KDE, Betelgeuse is an Icon theme developed by acidrums4 on deviant art. The project is claimed to be started with the aim to create a complete, modern, clean and eye-candy icon theme for the KDE Desktop Environment.

The Project is still under development and does not contain full set of icons, but the Icon theme seems promising and is an ultimate eyecandy for your KDE desktop.


Linux gives its users freedom to customize. We can change wallpaper, icon themes, cursor themes or even switch from one desktop environment to another, for example switching from GNOME desktop to XFCE desktop. Well, if you are one of many people who like customizing Linux desktop, you might interested in trying out these nice icon themes collection.

1. Faience

The newly Ubuntu version 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot has no configuration tool to customize your appearance including mouse cursor. But there is nothing impossible, you can still change mouse cursor using many many tricks. Today, I'd like to show one of those tricks. OK! Let's get started.

Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot does not have appearance properties so, we can't change GTK  theme's option and icon theme easily. Fortunately, there is such an application called dconf-tools that can be used to change some gnome appearance properties including gnome icon theme.

Hii.. desktop holic, I think we have good stuff for you. Icon is an important part of a theme which can provide convenience at once enhance your desktop appearance. Faenza Gnome icon theme is one of alternative which can be used to enhance your desktop appearance, here is a screenshoot of their icon pack.

You can install Frenza Gnome icon pack through apt-get or Synaptics package manager, copy - paste the code bellow to your terminal.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme

Hi there..Since a long time not uptodate. Here we are to bring technical guide "How to make your Linux  Gnome (Ubuntu) desktop look like a Mac, this guide is for Ubuntu addict with obsessed with the theme of Mac OSX  esspecially the Leopard. Previously we know themes like Mac4Lin, and now we can use this themes (GEKOS Leopard Theme for Nautilus Elementary) to make our desktop look like a MacOS Leopard closely, out of my personal opinion, this themes is great than Mac4lin it self. GEKOS Leopard Theme for Nautilus Elementary can be downloaded from this link: http://gekos.no/themes/gtk.html, From the screenshot attached, I think this theme is the closest to the actual theme of Mac OSX.
