A Summary Between KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS and GNOME 3.36 Gresik

After publishing my latest GNOME and then Plasma articles, I think it is interesting to summarize between them in a separate article considering several interesting stuffs. First, their release date are the same, 11, except Plasma is in February and GNOME is in March. Second, they publish interesting videos and announcements I listed below. Third, they had conferences in 2019 that back them up namely Akademy and GNOME.Asia Summit I also listed below. Fourth, they have users who love to write reviews such as Dedoimedo and OMG! Ubuntu I listed below too. Last but not least, I also mentioned where to download their source code, to contribute to them, and the donation links. How To Try Out KDE Plasma 5.18 Quickly (Released 11 February 2020)

The best way to test latest Plasma version 5.18 is by using KDE Neon operating system which is indeed designed to convey latest KDE Software to humanity. However, there are other distros out there to bring same thing if you would love an alternative. I mentioned below where and what to download, how to make bootable and run it, and finally several links to read. As a longtime KDE user I really welcome this latest release. Enjoy Plasma Desktop!

Finally We See XFCE 4.14 and GNU/Linux Distros with It

(XFCE 4.14 on Xubuntu Eoan Ermine beta version)

Now after Plasma 5.16 in June and a month before GNOME 3.34 in September, actually, in silent, the latest XFCE 4.14 released at 12 August 2019 after four years of development. Congratulations to XFCE Developers and especially Simon Steinbeiss and here's my short overview of latest XFCE I was waiting since 2015. I'm also looking for right time to write my own review next time. Here we go!

GNOME 3.34: Between Fedora Rawhide and openSUSE GNOME:Next

(GNOME:Next LiveCD running Thessaloniki lighter, faster, and more complete)

When I was writing about GNOME 3.34 yesterday, I only tested it on Fedora Rawhide, and I forgot that there is openSUSE special rolling edition. It is called openSUSE GNOME:Next and the ISO Image is available to run it as LiveCD. To date GNOME:Next includes 3.34 already and when I test it now, I'm impressed, I like GNOME 3.34 on openSUSE rather than on Fedora Rawhide! It's already fast on Fedora but it's faster and lighter on openSUSE. More than that, this openSUSE special edition includes built-in more GNOME Apps than Fedora's, like, Boxes, Buider, Fractal, Fragment, and more. It's more GNOMEish than Fedora! Now let's see it.

Getting GNOME 3.34 on Various GNU/Linux Distros

(Test GNOME Thessaloniki in comfort with openSUSE GNOME:Next)

I like to list out popular GNU/Linux distros that already ship latest desktop environment. For GNOME 3.34 case, currently I found Desktop Live distros that include it built-in to be Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE. You can download them and immediately test GNOME. Other names worth mentioning but I don't present them here are Alpine GNU/Linux, Debian, and Mageia. I write this at 17 September so things might change by day later. By this article, I also want to introduce several special distros like GNOME:Next and a certain awesome community service like Repology for you. Enjoy GNOME 3.34!

A Simple Review of GNOME 3.34

(GNOME 3.34: it's now faster and smoother!)

Not too long after KDE Plasma 5.16 released this June, GNOME released its latest stable version 3.34 this Thursday, 12 September 2019. This release codenamed Thessaloniki and named after the Greece city where latest GUADEC conference took place. I tested 3.34 on Fedora since last Friday. This is my short report on my findings over this latest GNOME version. Let's go!

Plasma 5.15 and 5.16 on Kubuntu and Other Distros

KDE Project released its latest desktop Plasma 5.15 at February and Plasma 5.16 at June this year. This article informs how to install the latest one on Kubuntu Disco 19.04 and --if you cannot upgrade-- what other distros available for you preinstalled with either of both versions. Enjoy!

Finally, Budgie Desktop 10.4 Is Now Available for Ubuntu 16.04, 17.04, 17.10

The latest Budgie Desktop 10.4 is finally available for Ubuntu 17.10, 17.04, and 16.04 LTS. The 17.10 users can install it directly from repo, while 17.04 users can use ubuntubudgie PPA, and 16.04 LTS users can use budgie-remix PPA. Big thanks for David and Ubuntu Budgie Team to package and provide all these binary packages of the latest Budgie!

Quick Look to Deepin Desktop on Manjaro

Do you know that you can enjoy Deepin Desktop not only at Deepin GNU/Linux? For now, Manjaro OS has a community edition called Manjaro Deepin. Yes, this means an OS with always latest packages and with Deepin Desktop! I find latest Deepin Desktop is far more lightweight at Manjaro than at Deepin OS 15.4.1. The 3D desktop effect is pretty normal there, not consuming 100% of CPU like my latest review on 15.4.1. I recommend anyone to test Manjaro Deepin instead if he/she needs to see how amazing Deepin Desktop is. Now it's time for the quick look!

Intro To Budgie Desktop 10.4: Now With Control Center & Flexible Panel

The latest Budgie Desktop 10.4 released at 18 August 2017 and this is a short review. The 10.4 brings huge changes on Budgie featuring new Desktop Settings, new Raven, more flexible panel for any position, ability to add new panel and change control buttons position, default bottom-left menu at bottom panel, and so on! This review is based on Solus OS 3 and not Ubuntu Budgie (because at this day no PPA available for 10.4 yet).

A Short MATE Desktop 1.17 Review in February 2017

MATE 1.17 is a testing release, it has no official announcement like 1.16 stable release (odd = unstable, even = stable). But what made me interested is because Ubuntu MATE 17.04 includes it by default so I write this short review. The most fundamental news is about MATE Desktop is now completely ported to GTK+3 leaving behind GTK+2. You may be interested seeing few changes and I have tried Ubuntu MATE 17.04 Alpha 2 to review MATE 1.17 below. Enjoy MATE 1.17!

KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environment has been released at 31 January 2017. This short review brings you short introductions about the new features in this release.
