In LibreOffice version 6.0, the menu Insert > Columns in Writer has removed. So now how to create columns? In 6.0, you can create columns from main menu Insert > Sections > Columns. Select 2 columns or 3 or more from the first selection, deselect Evenly distribute, and finally press Insert.

To remove columns in purpose to revert back to normal text layout, go to main menu Format > Sections > select Section 1 there > Remove > OK > columns are now gone.

Types of Columns



Firstly, you should know the types of columns. There are generally 2 types of columns based on the vertical position. First, partial column in single page. It means some parts are columned and other parts are not in a single page. Second, whole parts columned. It means no part is different. See picture below to differ it.
